About the Bridge and Objective
ChM4, Optical Integrations and Cleveland Electric Labs contract issued by Engineers Enterprise Pty Ltd for Rites Rail-Indian Railways embedded optical sensors in concrete in Mumbai India design build was awarded by Engineers Enterprise in Australia, working with the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee administrative staff and students for the first optical program for embedding sensors in concrete. The laying of the tracks between the first five stations are near completion. CIDCO is developing a time frame to build the remaining stations in addition to dealing with sanctions from Railway Board and Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) are under way. The second phase will resume with the expectation that multiple girder sections will be optically instrumented providing long-term structural health monitoring capabilities. This system is the first optically embedded sensor system in India with this first test showing robustness and reliability to extend into the second phase.
Models built by ChM4 and Cleveland Electric Labs for pre-assemble of sensor system and location approvals.

System Designed to have only one DAU combined with the newest optical sensors. (1) Luna optical interrogator,(38) os3600 with on board temperature compensation, (14) os4350's for absolute temperature embedded in concrete. Shown is girder 1 and 2 sensor map with typical elevation and cross section to show sensor arrangements.

Optical Integrations contracted to train IIT Roorkee University Students/ administrative staff and Rite Rail Personnel to embed optical sensors with hands on training during the installation. This was a great success in introducing a new concept of structural health monitoring to control rail assets.
